Iran Celebrates Persian Gulf National Day

In Iran, May 10 has been named the Persian Gulf National Day, the anniversary of the expulsion of the Portuguese from the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf.

The Persian Gulf borders Iran to the north, Kuwait and Iraq to the west, and Bahrain, Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates to the south. It covers an area of 240,000 km and is the third largest in the world after the Gulf of Mexico and Hudson Bay. The Persian Gulf is connected to the Oman Sea by the Strait of Hormuz and through it to the open seas.
